Wes Ryan has been with the FAA for 15 years and holds both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Kansas. He has helped lead emerging technology initiatives for the FAA in avionics, light sport aircraft, electric propulsion, and unmanned aircraft. His past efforts were instrumental in bringing safety enhancing glass displays, GPS moving maps, and envelope protection autopilot technology into light GA aircraft.
For 5 years, he has been actively participating with NASA to identify a regulatory path to enable On Demand Mobility concepts, has been the certification policy lead for Unmanned Aircraft design requirements, and has led UAS type certification efforts. His goal is the safe integration of UAS into the NAS, and to leverage core UAS technologies, like flight path control, electric propulsion, and automation concepts to improve safety of manned GA aircraft and enable transformational flight concepts in the near future.
